Active Buddies - Supporting people with disabilities and long term health conditions to be more active
This volunteer role is managed by Surrey Coalition of disabled people. Sport and physical activity can bring numerous benefits to physical, mental and social wellbeing but unfortunately those with long-term health conditions (LTHC's) and disabilities are some of the most inactive members of our society. Those with disabilities and LTHC's could benefit greatly from being more active but they often need a little extra help or support to attend sessions and build their confidence. The Active Buddy programme has been designed to provide a companion to encourage and support those with disabilities and LTHC's to attend sessions and live a more active life. Surrey Coalition will match volunteers with members who have registered an interest in the programme.
No experience of buddying necessary but volunteers need to be friendly, approachable and keen to support others.
