UKAM (UK Analogue Mission)
UKAM is looking for enthusiastic and committed volunteers to bring their expertise and know-how to the team. If you are interested in STEM & STEAM fields including human spaceflight, robotics, rovers, teleoperations, and astrobiology then you’re just the person we need on board to assist in the pursuit of developing and inspiring the UK’s future in space. To make all of this possible, we’re looking for qualified students and professionals to join the UKAM team.
ABOUT US:

Our objective is to provide students practical experience in "space analogue missions", by creating a portable habitat which can be installed in various locations, providing opportunities for analogue missions. This will nurture hands-on experience which students will require in their future careers, through the involvement of interdisciplinary collaboration, promoting technology, science, engineering and the arts. The greater goal for UKAM is to ignite the passion for space exploration in the British public, and elevate our role in the international cooperation of human spaceflight.

UKAM aims to utilise the variety of landscapes within the UK to simulate isolated manned space flight missions. We are working closely with international partners in collaborating future mission designs and locations to provide the closest experience possible to the space environment. The habitat has been designed by the incredible architects at D-Mars who join us in selecting dedicated students to build the UKAM habitat. The habitat is portable, designed to leave without a trace, making it ideal to navigate through the array of selected locations, easy to transport and store.

An analogue space mission, or ‘analogue’, is a situation, environment or event on Earth that replicates the conditions of outer-space, or another celestial body. These can be used to test the performance of new technologies destined for other planets, or put the human body through similar effects as living and working off-world, helping us learn, practice and prepare for the future. Existing analogue missions have sent crews to live in hostile environments such as deserts for several weeks, in some cases months, under the same physical, organisational, and technological restrictions that future astronauts will face.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

We aim to;

1. Develop UK space analogue missions, providing practical STEM/STEAM opportunities

2, Ignite the passion for human spaceflight within the British public

3. Promote international and interdisciplinary STEM collaboration

OUR VALUES:
Interdisciplinary STEM & STEAM outreach and education§International collaboration§Intercultural acceptance
OUR AWARDS:
European Space Agency - Business Incubation Centre Start-up Weekend Award for "Best Idea" in collaboration with D-Mars.
THINGS WE ARE PROUD OF:
International and interdisciplinary collaboration.§Our vision in helping students in STEM.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

Passion and enthusiasm for human spaceflight, and space.§An openness to learn§Personal specialised skills

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

We aim to develop the first space analogue mission of its kind within the UK. We believe that the mission will provide a fantastic scientific outreach and educational opportunity for the community near the mission location, as well as draw interest nationally and internationally. We look to engage the local and national community, particularly children and students, in raising awareness and inspiration in human spaceflight and space through talks and workshops on the topic, as well as using the analogue mission itself as a platform for STEM outreach and education.
