The Macular Society is a national charity that supports individuals living with macular disease and central vision loss. We have a number of services, including: counselling, befriending, connect by technology, and peer support groups, too. We have an advice and information line open Monday-Friday, 9-5pm which is open to anyone wanting to find out more about their condition (or a family member's condition.)
Nearly 1.5m people in the UK have macular disease. It affects people of all ages. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common condition, generally affecting people over the age of 55. AMD is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK, affecting more than 700,000 people.
Being diagnosed with macular disease can be distressing and worrying but, with the right information and support, people can cope very well. We aim to help those with a macular condition through our services.
We are looking for compassionate individuals, who would like to help others, with a willingness to learn about macular disease.
The Macular Society is the UK’s leading charity determined to beat the fear and isolation of macular disease with world-class research, and the best advice and support. By giving your time, you will help us to reach the thousands of people living with macular disease and sight loss in your area and provide life-changing support. It's an exciting time to be part of the Macular Society, so join today and you’ll receive a warm welcome from our fantastic team and volunteer community.
