The Meath is a dynamic charity which enables people who live with complex epilepsy and associated disabilities to live life as independently as possible and to achieve their own personal goals. The Meath runs a wide range of activities at the Skills Centre which includes sport and fitness activities, Horticulture, Creative and expressive arts, social activities and educational classes. Clients are also able to engage in meaningful, creative activities at Changing Perceptions and ARTHOUSE Meath which are the Meath's two fantastic social enterprises on Godalming High Street.
The Meath offers some of the most vulnerable local people a fulfilled and happy life. Living with complex epilepsy and an associated physical or learning disability can pose many challenges and for some people living at home is simple not an option. The Meath provides a wonderful home for 80 residents and also supports day clients and through outstanding and specialised care it makes a genuinely life changing difference to those it supports.
The Meath focuses on Ability not Disability and we rely on volunteers who can see past disability
We rely on volunteers but understand that student life is hectic and after spending time studying and earning money you may not have much spare time! It is important therefore that you get something useful out of your volunteering time and that it can fit in around your busy schedule.
We have an on-going need for help at Community Fundraising Events which usually occur at weekends/evenings in Godalming and surrounding areas. Generally these opportunities suit students who are happy to spend a little of their time helping a great local charity, and who are outgoing and personable. Typical events might include carol singing/flash mob (with a choir) and collection at a shopping centre, Town/Village Fete, charity sale, stewarding at a charity performance or fun run. You would be supported by our friendly Community Fundraiser and we always have lots of fun while raising both awareness of the charity and vital funding.
