Samson Centre for MS
'The Samson Centre for MS enables people living with multiple sclerosis to remain as active as possible by providing the physiotherapy, exercise and oxygen therapy they need in a supportive and welcoming environment'
ABOUT US:

Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system, affecting around one in every 600 people in the UK. Whilst worldwide, millions of pounds are being invested in research and clinical trials, these currently have not resulted in a cure. People living with Multiple Sclerosis are some of the most vulnerable in society, the services we provide assist in offsetting the impact of this complex neurological condition.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

The essential services we offer at the Samson Centre are not provided by the NHS and the Centre receives no government or local authority funding. It however supports some 240 users with weekly treatments. The physical interventions we offer include physiotherapy, gym exercise and oxygen therapy. In addition to these physical interventions, emotional support is provided to the Centre’s users. MS is a debilitating and degenerative neurological condition, it is non-discriminatory, and the Samson Centre provides essential support throughout the county for people who live with the disease.

OUR VALUES:
.Our values include self-help, being a responsible member of our local community, helping others whenever possible and embracing technology.
OUR AWARDS:
Queen's Award for Voluntary Services - November 2018
THINGS WE ARE PROUD OF:
Annually the Samson Centre provides some 3,5 physio sessions, 4, exercise classes, over 2,5 fitness sessions and approximately 5, oxygen therapy treatments. The Team at the Samson Centre for MS all operate on a part time basis, including Physiotherapists, Fitness Instructors and Rehabilitation
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

The operation of the Oxygen Therapy unit at the Samson Centre for MS requires a significant team of volunteers. As we work with some of the most vulnerable people in society utilising the services, it is essential that all our volunteers display empathy and professionalism to assure those who are undertaking Oxygen Therapy Treatment that they are safe and any anxiety they may feel is understood. Volunteers are given comprehensive training in managing the Oxygen therapy equipment, the volunteers must ensure that all protocols are followed to ensure safety. Volunteers are required to follow stringent hygiene standards, ensure detailed records of interventions and treatments, assist in recording the overall usage of the centre, and fully implement the Covid 19 systems.

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

The Samson Centre for MS is not part of a national network, it operates independently supporting vulnerable people in the region. The Samson Centre for MS forms part of a wider network of physical activity organisations in the area including The Lions, Active Surrey and Guildford Borough Council.
