Surrey Independent Living Council (SILC)
Our mission is to provide support and information to enable more people to live independently. Our staff and volunteers work with our clients so that they can make informed choices about their lives. We work in partnership with professionals, agencies and people across Surrey to create an environment where these choices can be fulfilled. We also believe that disabled adults, children, older people and carers can learn from and support each other.
ABOUT US:

Surrey Independent Living Council (SILC) is a voluntary organisation led and run by disabled people. We offer a range of services to help people live independently, whether they receive support from the council, NHS or fund their own care.

We also provide the NHS Health Complaints Advocacy service in Surrey and administer the GP Carer Break Scheme, including the carer prescriptions service, and are involved in joint ventures and national initiatives including Healthwatch Surrey.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

We believe that every disabled adult, child, older person and carer should be able to live independently with the same choices, opportunities and control over their lives as anyone else. By providing support and information we enable our clients to understand the options open to them and have the confidence to put in place support arrangements that meet their individual needs.

OUR VALUES:
SILC believes that everyone can live independently with the right support. At the heart of everything we do is the social model of disability and the concept of full human rights. We believe that these give a basis for treating everyone with respect, understanding and fairness.
THINGS WE ARE PROUD OF:
Our staff have a wealth of personal experience of living with disabilities and an in-depth understanding of the social care system. They are empathetic, professional and experts at bringing clarity in an ever-changing system.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

An understanding of the social model of disability§A desire to help people live as independently as possible§Empathy§Professionalism
