The people aged 18+ who use Parity’s three day services in Farnborough, Hampshire and in Camberley and Mytchett, Surrey, access our specialist staff, equipment and technologies to engage in chosen activities, build friendships and networks, use and develop skills, contribute to their community – in fact, do what everyone else is doing.
Parity exists because when a young person with multiple disabilities finishes full-time education, they’re left with few services to call on. Most of the 53 people, called students, using our services have profound physical disabilities along with learning disabilities. They may also have sensory impairments and/or epilepsy. The majority use a wheelchair. All students need a high level of support to carry out most daily activities. Without the right support, the students face isolation, inactivity, and the loss of the movement, skills and abilities that they have.
Empathy, understanding of the issues faced by people with multiple disabilities, positive attitude towards disability.
Specialist services are few and far between. At Parity, people with multiple disabilities access specialist staff, equipment and technologies, and flexible transport. so they go out and about often as well as benefiting from the resources back at base. We stay up to date and focused on their needs, so they can manage their day, doing the things they choose to do.
