Play Action International
We work in disadvantaged communities, focusing on enhancing children’s learning, development and access to education through play. We take an innovative child-centred approach to education and use the power of play to transform the lives of children through our play programmes.
ABOUT US:

We work with some of the most vulnerable children and communities in the world, supporting children living in extreme poverty and those experiencing danger, displacement, conflict and natural/humanitarian disasters.

We work with children, parents, caregivers, teachers, community leaders and NGOs to highlight the importance of play and enable them to integrate play-based initiatives for enhanced education, health and development outcomes.

From Educational Play Teacher Training to our Hygiene Heroes programme, you will be amazed at the far-reaching impact play can have.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Play is an essential part of childhood and is critical to child development, supporting the cognitive, physical, social and emotional well-being of children. Play is especially important during the early years (0-8 years of age), because this is the period in life when the brain develops most rapidly and has a high capacity for change – laying the foundation for health and well-being throughout life.

lobal research found that in disadvantaged communities across the world where play-based learning initiatives were implemented…

- Average monthly earnings increased by 42% over 20 years compared to other children
- Participants achieved 44% higher school graduation rate while the percentage with bachelor degrees increased by 17%
- The individual and social economic benefit was $244,812 per participant over 40 years
- Participants achieved an employment rate 7 times higher than expected based on their level of educational attainment

Childhood should be a magical time. A time where children can feel safe to form secure attachments, explore their world and develop healthy foundations for the future. Yet for many children – especially those who experience displacement, conflict, war, bereavement, poverty, hunger, abuse, violence and exploitation or even witness the suffering of others – it can be a source of significant trauma. Play is an important tool to mitigate the impact of these experiences in childhood.

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

Not many volunteering opportunities give you a chance to see first-hand the impact of your fundraising. You will get to physically be part of the playground build and see the impact that play has in transforming and enriching the lives of children and communities in East Africa.

Our volunteering opportunities are ethical in the way that our volunteers create jobs, not take them away like other opportunities.
