Founded officially in 1998, with records dating back further, the University of Surrey Ballroom and Latin Dance Club (Surrey BLDC) has inspired many cohorts of university students into the realms of Ballroom and Latin, whether that be for the first time, or returning under the University Banner. We compete for Team Surrey across a plethora of National Competitions, including the prestigious IVDC Ballroom and Latin Dance Festival in Blackpool.
Ballroom and Latin dance are the cornerstones of socialisation from the bygone era of the 20th Century. In the modern world, opportunities for non-digital interaction and satisfaction are rare. We wish to see the preservation of classic means of socialisation, the wonderfully unique spectacle of bringing people together in one place for a shared goal.

We are a group of friends and family first, and a dance team second. We aim to build relationships, and give our members an escape from stressful university life. We bridge the gap between student and teacher, giving opportunities for members to take the lead of teaching and in more minor ways helping their peers.
