Cherry Trees
Cherry Trees’ vision and values are child first, disability second. We play an active part in ensuring children progress and participate in a range of activities and positive experiences, whilst delivering sustainable support to the whole family. We believe that every child is an individual with the right to enjoy a normal pattern of life within the community, appropriate to his or her age. We advocate respect, dignity and freedom of choice for all.
ABOUT US:

Cherry Trees is a small charity providing home-from-home specialist respite care for children and young adults aged 0-19 with a range of complex disabilities including learning, physical and sensory impairments.

Founded in 1980 by a group of parents and doctors, Cherry Trees is a lifeline for 115 families whether it be after school care for a few hours, a weekend stay or even a staying for several weeks.

Cherry Trees is a unique place, providing professional care in a safe, stimulating and fun environment, where every child is valued for who they are. It is a community that is dedicated to children and young people, enabling them to spend time with friends and enjoy new experiences and opportunities, while their families are given the space to have a much needed break.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Cherry Trees is a fun, happy supportive place that provides a lifeline to so many families. Every child that comes to Cherry Trees is given one to one care, as well as individual, goal-based care plans so that they are constantly overcoming personal hurdles when they're with us. They socialise with other children, learn how to do things for themselves and participate in activities and trips, all of which significantly contribute to their personal development. Their parents and families are confident that their child is receiving the high-quality, specialist care that they need and deserve, which allows them to have a break from the daily stresses of caring for a special needs child.

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

We offer a range of different volunteer positions.

We regularly require volunteers to help at public fundraising events, with marshalling, running stalls and setting up and taking down equipment and much more. You can help from 2 hours upwards. No forms are needed, we just require your contact details.

We also welcome applications from volunteers each summer and in other school holidays, helping our carers in the house. An enhanced DBS is needed for these roles, so you need to apply at least 1 month ahead of time.

Whatever you can do or would like to try, we will work hard to find a space for you.
