Companion Volunteer - Surrey

What You'll Do:

As a Companion Volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to provide one-on-one companionship and support to individuals with terminal illnesses and their families. This is your chance to make a meaningful impact and offer comfort during some of life’s most challenging moments. Plus, you’ll be part of a nationwide team of over 5,00 volunteers, each dedicated to making the world a more caring and supportive place.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Be a friendly companion:
  • Offer a listening ear
  • Engage in uplifting conversations, and provide emotional support to clients and their families.
  • Spend quality time with those you’re supporting, whether in their home, care homes, or out in the community.
  • Help caregivers by giving them short breaks to rest and recharge.
  • Accompany clients to medical appointments or on short trips out, helping them stay active and connected.

 

Frequency & Commitment Details

1-3 hours per week is desirable in person and/or over the phone. We are dedicated to finding the right fit to suit your schedule.

 

Travel Details

When matching you with someone we will take into account your ability to travel.

 

Expenses Details

Reasonable out of pocket expenses are reimbursed. This includes travel by the use of your own vehicle, or public transport.

Expenses are paid monthly directly to the volunteer.

 

Training Details

Excellent support and relevant training is provided to all volunteers wishing to apply or wishing to gain further experience in the caring industry. We provide all training necessary covering all information relevant to the role.

What We're Looking For: 

 

  • Passionate and Empathetic person with a genuine desire to support others during their end-of-life journey.
  • A warm, friendly attitude and a good listener.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to connect with others.
  • Reliability and commitment, with around 3 hours a week to spare.
  • Local Knowledge and/or residency in the Surrey community.
  • Respect for confidentiality and diversity, as well as an openness to learn and grow in this role.
  • Basic IT skills for handling documentation and communication.
